Our title sequence treatment was simple but elegant. We wanted to reference Native American Tribes with a newspaper headline-like treatment written in different tribal languages. The film's opening sequence presents the main title “Bad Press” in Navajo, Osage, Grand Ronde, Cherokee, Muscogee and English languages. We also assisted with the development of graphical elements like maps, diagrams and typography treatment to ensure seamless integration with the film's tone and storyline.
So often Native American stories feel like ancient history. This film tells a story happening right now in the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, and our maps needed to feel like a modern printing. Muscogee (Creek) Nation is a self-governed Native American tribe located in Okmulgee, Oklahoma.
Much of our approach was meant to integrate the graphics and make them feel invisible between the filmed newspapers and real election experience of the online portal. This election feed was meant to help tell the story by simplifying the user-interface, but sharing the same aesthetic.
