To fly from the top to the bottom of the shoe meant getting a very thick plate of plexiglass, but the see-through stage meant we saw the studio setup, too. Nothing a little Nuke compositing can’t take care of.
We teamed up again with our friends at Lumenati to make an ordinary shoe advert extraordinary with the magic from our visual effects team.
To fly from the top to the bottom of the shoe meant getting a very thick plate of plexiglass, but the see-through stage meant we saw the studio setup, too. Nothing a little Nuke compositing can’t take care of.
Metal beams held up the glass stage in order to create a “walking on air” effect. The footage was shot using the Bolt motion control rig, so repeating the same move exactly for each shot, including the clean plate was vital to our success. The curved camera path presented a unique challenge with the different angles of the shoe and the model's leg. We used camera projections to remove those pesky bars on the model’s leg and, more importantly, the featured shoe.
After cleaning up the set, we realized the beam reflections could be seen through the glass, so a new compositing pass took care of those.
