Telling the Untellable

With Winn, we were challenged to illustrate a story that was simply too painful to reenact. Pamela was incarcerated where she found out she was pregnant. From there, her nightmare begins. Art was a way for Pamela to work through her grief and pain. It was our job to tell Pamela's story through the lens of her art style with subtle and poignant motion graphics.

Art and direction

Pamela's story was tragic, and one of her outlets to deal with her trauma was art. It was an opportunity for us to include her expression back into her story. We used Pamela's art and also drew our own in her style to deliver this heartbreaking story about a new mother and the loss of her baby.

This is a reflection on how storyboards help drive the content and shows the end result changes a bit but still stayed true to the initial story concept.

Her testimony is powerful, so it was our intention to build and animate these illustrations in a way that supported the story. We're excited to say that Winn has been very well received, winning an award at the Atlanta Film Festival in 2022, where the film first premiered.
